Google agreement with the US Department of Defense

Alphabet's Google negotiates a deal with the U.S. Department of Defense, which will allow the Pentagon to develop Gemini artificial intelligence models in classified environments, the Information reported on Thursday, citing two people with direct knowledge of the discussions.

The two parties are discussing an agreement that would allow the Pentagon to use Google's artificial intelligence for all lawful uses, according to the report.

During negotiations, Google proposed additional wording in its contract with the department to prevent its artificial intelligence from being used in any domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weapons without proper human control, the Information reports.

The Pentagon will continue to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities through strong industry partnerships across all classification levels, a Pentagon official said, without confirming any talks with Google.
