The next big Ubuntu distribution update will be called Groovy Gorilla and will be released in the fall, according to the release schedule announced by Canonical.
The Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was officially released this week as one of the most anticipated updates for a long time, and now it looks like Canonical is starting to cook the next big release later in 2020.
Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla will therefore be the next major Ubuntu update after the 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa).
The Groovy Gorilla version is expected to be officially released in a trial phase this summer, while the feature-freeze phase is scheduled for the end of August. At this stage, developers stop adding new features to complete the development process. They will then focus on fixing bugs in the features they have added.
If all goes well according to schedule, the Ubuntu 20.10 version will be released on October 22 as the final version, according to the release schedule. The final freeze and the release candidate are set for October 15.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on the new Ubuntu LTS 20.04, which was recently released.
