Guardian: Raining requests to Google for data deletions

Only a few minutes after the ruling of the European Court of Justice on "the right to forgiveness", the internet gossip Google has already accepted by hundreds of users to delete specific results from the search. This is what the Guardian claims in its article, adding that the interested parties come from all over Europe.

The verdict of the European Court of Justice was announced on 13 May and obliges Google, under certain conditions, to comply with complaints sent by users to delete data. So, it should remove from the results of the searches that concern them, those links that refer to "obsolete and unrelated" information.

According to the Guardian, those who have already struck the internet giant include a man condemned for possession of child pornography material, asking for the links mentioned in his conviction to be deleted. Also, a doctor wants to delete his client's negative reviews while a former MP asks to delete references to negative publications about his conduct during his term as he plans to re-nominate.

The report quotes statements by a Google representative who, while refusing to disclose the number and nature of the claims the company has received, noted compliance with the decision is complicated in its implementation. "As soon as we come up with how it works in practice, for which we will need a few weeks, we will inform users," he added.

However, the court ruling states that Google has the ability to reject user requests if the links they request to be removed are contrary to the public's legitimate interest in obtaining in said information. With this reasoning, notes the British newspaper, the Internet giant could possibly not accept the objections of the politician or the person convicted of possession of child pornography material.
