In short, Project Handpose is a real-time hands-free tracker. The system monitors and can accurately reconstruct complex gestures using only one depth camera (like the Xbox One for Kinect).
As you can imagine, Microsoft's research goal is to allow for new human-computer interactions.

Microsoft reports that the Handpose tracker is flexible in terms of camera placement and bandwidth, which means that this technology promises a lot for real-world applications.
Monitoring a single hand, which can make extremely complex and delicate movements, is much more difficult than recognition of body movements. The fingers the wrist are much smaller parts than the parts of the whole human body. But the difficulty grows if one thinks about how flexible they are.
The tracker should be basically very sensitive to be able to distinguish small fingers from their environment, as they are very easy to hide from the camera viewpoint.
