Prevent automatic restart after updating in Windows 8

Windows

If you have set them up ή 7 download and install updates automatically, you may have noticed that they also perform an automatic reboot after installing an update.

This for some can be a very annoying (as for us), especially if you have your computer tasked to perform some important tasks. It can even restart while watching a show or movie or when you make a major online transaction.

Fortunately, it is possible to change its behavior OS and prevent Windows from automatically restarting after installations update. How? See the way.

1. Open the Registry Editor (press Win + R and type in the new window the word “”)

2. Then go to the following key:

   HKLM \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ WindowsUpdate \ AU

If this key does not exist, simply create it.

3. Create here a new DWORD name with the name NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers and set it to 1.

NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers

4. Shut down regdit and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Well done. Windows 8 will not re-run the automatic restart.

Alternatively, for those who do not do well with Registry, you can also configure this parameter in other ways, specifically by using local group policy settings. Follow these simple guidelines:

1. Press the keys Win + R  together on the keyboard. The Run dialog will appear on the screen.
2. Type the following in the Run box:

gpedit.msc

run

Press Enter.

3. The Local Group Policy Editor will appear on the screen.

Navigate to the following categories:

Computer Settings \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows

4. Set it up No automatic reboot with logged-in users for scheduled auto-update installations in Enabled mode.

That's it.
