Analysts believe that M8 is an opportunity for the company to regain lost ground against Samsung and Apple, who are benefiting from their large marketing budgets. "Although last year was considered by many to be the best smartphone of 2013, the company has failed to capitalize on this," Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight Technology Consultants, told BBC.
One of the key features of the new smartphone is a rear-end sensor for recording distance. These data are used by a specific application to give the user the ability to "mimic" the effect of the focus change after taking a picture, keeping some of its elements clear but blurring some others. This allows the user to add various effects to the background of a photo while keeping the main "object" unchanged.
