According to her report Counterpoint Research Apple for the first time in six years has taken the first place in the phone market in Japan by derailing Sharp who has dominated over the past few years.
Apple, in particular, won the 15 percent of the market by surpassing Sharp and Fujitsu staying at 14 per cent each. Last year with the launch of iPhone 4S, the company managed to take first place in a few quarters but never for the whole year! This is a particularly important achievement, taking into account the difficulties of the Japanese market traditionally dominated by local companies and feature phones.
Recall that Apple for the first time topped the list of phone sales in the US last quarter marking another key point in the company's entry into this market.
