The USA and the EU have regulations that don't allow you to fly your drone above ~150 meters. Someone in the Netherlands decided to ignore the law and test flight at 3.400 meters.
The anonymous owner drone originally published in YouTube the footage he shot, saying he attempted to break the world record with a DJI Phantom 2. His video was soon taken down, and is now back on the vidme service. You can watch here:
The 4 video shows the unmanned aircraft rising all the way up to 3,4 kilometers above the ground. At this altitude, drone flies over a layer of clouds. With only 27% battery, the operator decided to start the descent back to Earth. At the time of landing it was just 4%.
Needless to say, this is an extremely dangerous and illegal trick, and the operator is being called an "idiot" in the comments he's received on his video. The drone at this height could collide with a helicopter or small airplane, or could plummet to the ground from a high altitude if it ran out of battery with the potential to kill or injure.
So if you do not want to put your fellow human beings at risk and become an accused, do not try it when you do it with your own machine.
