As many of you have noted, domain iGuRu.gr has been offline since January 1, to date, with few and usually short-term exceptions. The following publication explains what happened, something we owe you, as your interest was really touching.
We received hundreds of emails and social messages from iGuru.gr, from people who could not see the site.
It all started at 1 in January 9: 45AM CST (5.45 am Greece). A major DDoS attack forced one of the data centers (Atlanta datacenter) that iGuRu.gr host to shut down!
During the downtime of the webpage, the cached page appeared from Cloudflare, a service we used but it was impossible for the site to function properly.
Incident - 9: 45AM CST - At this time we have reports of a large scale DDoS attack on one of our 3rd Party datacenters in the United States, which is causing downtime for a subset of our customers. Our datacenter provider is currently working to mitigate the attack. As more information becomes available we will update this post.
Ds-service attacks (DoS attacks) are generally called attacks against a computer or service that is provided to make the computer or service unable to accept other connections and so can not serve other potential customers.
Although the term is mainly related to network services, it is not limited to them but also refers to other domains such as the CPU where a corresponding attack consumes the resources of the microprocessor.
The attack is carried out by sending too many false requests for service so that the service can not serve those who really want the service.
The attacks continued throughout New Year but also in the next two days.
Today at 10: 20PM CST, the announcement from our hosting provider indicates that the connection has been restored and stable, although they are still trying to further stabilize their systems.
Update 10: 20PM CST: Connectivity is now stable, and our 3rd party datacenter reports that all attack vectors that can lead to a DDoS taking down Atlanta datacenter have been blocked. We continue to monitor and work with them to come to a final resolution.
So 2016 "entered" us with a fairly large DDoS attack, which dropped the entire data center. Anyway, the company that hosts us, is one of the most reliable and we hope that it will overcome any problem soon.
We apologize for the disappointment that we gave to our readers who tried to connect to the site in the past few days and we wish you a good and creative year!
