Waiting for the Mobile World Congress 2014

The largest mobile telephony exhibition, Mobile World Congress, is preparing to reopen its gates, in the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona.

The first MWC events are scheduled for today, Sunday, February 23, to be followed on Monday, the second and largest wave of announcements. Following last year's sluggish report, several important announcements are expected this year. The MWC of 2013 lacked the big "emotions" after the Galaxy S4, last year's flagship of Samsung, was announced two weeks after the exhibition, while the also top HTC One was announced a week before.

On the contrary, at MWC 2014 there will be, logically, the of Samsung's new flagship, the Galaxy S5. In fact, the Korean company has announced the “Unpacked 5”, which has been translated by everyone as the S5 launch event.

The company's new flagship device is rumored to come with a 5,25-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, much speculation has been made as to whether it will feature a fingerprint sensor, and there may be a change in materials s (metal instead of plastic).

A big question about the presence of Samsung is also about the fate of the operating system for smartphones, Tizen. Some rumors want Samsung to appear normally, while others want it to be withdrawn due to the broader Samsung-Google alliance for using Android.

Sony is also expected to present its new flagship during the Mobile World Congress. The temporary name of the device is Sirius or other D6503 sources and will be a development of the Xperia Z1.

Voices want the device to incorporate 4K video capture, slow-motion video capture, and dual-tap activation on the screen. At the same time, the Japanese company is expected to release its new tablet (Xperia Z2), which according to some leaks will have 10,1 inch screen, Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM and 6000 mAh battery.

LG Electronics has already made announcements of new devices that will make their maiden appearance during MWC2014. This is the LG G Pro 2, the 5,9 inch screen, the renewed L series with L90, L70 and L40 and the "small" LG G2 mini with 4,7 inch diagonal screen.

Great interest is expected for Nokia's announcements. The rumor is that the company will launch a device that incorporates a radically modified version of Android in conjunction with Nokia applications and environment. Perhaps before finalizing the takeover of the Finnish company by Microsoft, we can see to see a Nokia device with Android ... even if it is not.

In a situation similar to that of Nokia will also be found : on hold before its acquisition is completed, this time by China's Lenovo. So, nothing substantial is expected from Motorola, even though the Moto X and Moto G seemed to pique the public's interest to some extent.

Conversely, Chinese manufacturers are expected to make their presence felt. Companies such as ZTE, TCL (Alcatel), Huawei and, of course, Lenovo are expected to take on a host of new presentations.

Beyond the absence of Mobile World Congress, Apple, HTC is attempting to differentiate itself from other manufacturers, at least in communication. The company from Taiwan has announced that it will hold its own event, in 25 March, for the presentation of the new flagship that will replace One. That is, a month after the MWC.

The device's goal is to perform all the typical features of a smartphone, but with the utmost security. The BlackPhone is going to be powered by Geeksphone and will use a modified version of the Android operating system.

Despite so many rumors and leaks, the Mobile World Congress is sure to reserve many surprises, whether pleasant or unpleasant. From 24 to February 27, the heart of technology will hit Barcelona.
