Not surprisingly: Digital information has far outweighed the paper by those who are interested in news.
More than half of all internet users are connected to some form of social media, meaning they are more likely to come into contact with breaking news than others users who share the information on these platforms. This is especially true on Twitter, where stories become famous before they even hit the print media.
In fact, 64,5% of Americans get their news online, and traffic to news websites generated by social media has increased to 57% since 2009. The New York Times and CNN websites have a particularly large movement from social media, since they have more than 10 millions followers on Twitter each one.
