Google has already announced the project privacy sandbox which is supposed to address the issues caused by third-party cookies. The company says that its new system could be released in the programs browsing Chrome sometime next year.
However, Google, which wants to delete third-party cookies, has caused some concern in the UK, so the Competition and Markets Authority, or CMA (from the Competition and Markets Authority), has confirmed that it is launching an investigation to help determine whether the company will abuses its dominant position in the market or not.
“The CMA has received complaints from Marketers of Open Web Limited, a group of newspaper publishers and companies technologys, which allege that Google is abusing its dominant position," an official press release states released.
"Given the importance and potential impact of Google's proposed changes, the CMA is already considering the Privacy Sandbox, in conjunction with the ICO and Google. Given the concerns expressed by the complainants, it decided that a formal investigation should be conducted into this project. ”
With the Privacy Sandbox project, Google will offer a set of tools for targeting ads, all aimed at protecting users' privacy.
But that may not be enough, it seems, and the CMA says it's already working with Google to understand all the changes the company plans to make to program Chrome browser.
