Aadam Jacobs, a Chicago concert enthusiast who has recorded more than 10.000 concerts since the 1980s, is working with Internet Archive volunteers to digitize the collection before his tapes wear out.
"So far, about 2.500 of these tapes have been posted to the Internet Archive, including some rare diamonds." like a Nirvana show from 1989", says the TechCrunch:
For many of these recordings, Jacobs used fairly modest equipment, but volunteer sound engineers working with the Internet Archive have made these tapes sound great.
A volunteer, Brian Emerick, goes to Jacobs' house once a month to pick up boxes of tapes. He then has to use anachronistic cassette players to play the tapes, which are converted into digital files.
From there, other volunteers clean, organize, and name the recordings, even identifying song names from forgotten rock bands.
The file is available. from here.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
