Iranian hackers breach FBI director's email

Hackers linked to Iran FBI director's personal emails hacked, Kash Patel, by posting photos of the director and other documents online. On their website, the hacker group Handala Hack Team said that Patel “will now find his name on the list of victims who have been successfully hacked.”

The hackers published a series of private photos of Patel sniffing and smoking cigars, driving an antique convertible, and making a face while taking a picture in the mirror with a large bottle of rum.

The FBI confirmed that Patel's emails were hacked.

In a statement, FBI spokesman Ben Williamson said:

“we have taken all necessary measures to mitigate the potential risks associated with this activity” and that the data was “old and does not include government information.”

Handala, which presents itself as a pro-Palestinian hacker group, is considered by Western researchers to be one of many groups used by the Iranian government's cyber-espionage units.

Alongside Patel's photos, the hackers published a sample of more than 300 emails, which appear to be personal and professional correspondence dating between 2010 and 2019.
