Britain will ban the Chinese-owned app TikTok from the mobile phones of ministers and civil servants, bringing the UK in line with the US and the European Union.
The decision marks a U.K. U-turn and came hours after TikTok said its owner, ByteDance, had been told by Washington to sell the app or face a possible US ban. Which finally happened.
The UK government's announcement was made on Thursday by Oliver Dowden, a cabinet minister. It said the ban is taking place "with immediate effect".
Η απόφαση πάρθηκε μετά από εξέταση του TikTok από κυβερνητικούς εμπειρογνώμονες στον τομέα της cyber securityand refers to the work telephone numbers of ministers and civil servants, but not their personal telephone numbers.
Similar attitude he's got and the European Union.
One millionfaceof TikTok said the company was disappointed. “We believe these bans are based on fundamental misconceptions and are driven by wider geopolitics, in which TikTok and our millions of UK users play no part. We remain committed to working with the government to address any concerns."
