Microsoft has released an out-of-program update for Windows users. The update is currently available from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
The KB4578013 is an update specifically for Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2. It comes to patch two different security vulnerabilities found in these operating systems.
Windows 10 devices are not affected by these vulnerabilities, so if you are using the latest version of Windows 10 you should be safe.
The two security vulnerabilities that this patch fixes have already been fixed: CVE-2020-1530 and CVE-2020-1537. Both vulnerabilities, if used by a malicious user, can give them remotely enhanced privileges on a Windows system.
Windows 7 is also vulnerable to both vulnerabilities, but as we already know, this version is no longer supported by company. This means that the error will remain in the functional system.
For Windows 8.1 users, it is recommended that you install the new update immediately.
