Microsoft has added a new known issue to the Windows 11 issue list of version 24H2, the latest information capabilities of the company.
The company reports that users who try to install new security updates or its updates Patch Tuesday in Windows 11 24H2 they will not be able to do this if they had installed their operating system using CD or USB.
The issue affects anyone trying to update one system who has already installed October 2024 Patch Tuesday (KB5044284) and November 2024 Patch Tuesday (KB5046617).
If you used media to install Windows 11, version 24H2, the device may remain in a state where it cannot accept further Windows security updates. This only happens when the media is built to include the October 2024 or November 2024 security updates (these updates were released between October 8, 2024 and November 12, 2024).
Note that this only happens if you used media – such as CDs and USB flash drives – to install Windows 11 24H2. This issue does not occur for Appliances where the October 2024 security update or the November 2024 security updates were installed through Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
The company cites as a solution to avoid the October and November updates if a user wishes to proceed with an installation from USB or CD. Microsoft says that the latest December update (Patch Tuesday) is not affected by this problem.
Solution: To avoid problems, do not install Windows 11 24H2 that installs the October and November 2024 security updates. Make sure that the media used to install Windows 11 24H2 includes the December 2024 monthly security update (released on 10 December 2024).
