Samsung's latest update in the series Family Hub smart refrigerators adds a feature that many would like — opening and closing the door with a voice command.
Using the device's built-in Bixby voice control, you'll soon be able to say "Close the fridge door" or "Open the door" and your device will obey.
In accordance with Samsung press release at CES 2026 this week, voice commands will open the door fully, not just a little, but more than 90 degrees. You'll also be able to touch the door with your palm or the back of your hand to trigger the motion.
This could be extremely useful while cooking, say when your hands are dirty and you want to get the milk.
Along with voice control for doors, the Family Hub series also gets the addition of Gemini. The built-in AI Vision that powers the refrigerator's ability to recognize what you put in and take out of your fridge will now use Google's LLM.
This will allow it to “instantly identify unlimited fresh and processed foods,” according to Samsung, and is designed to help with meal planning and reduce food waste.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
