Before streaming became the dominant online music stream, people ripped song tracks from official CDs and played them on computers or portable MP3 media players.
One of the most popular MP3 players was Winamp, mainly because of the psychedelic animations and skins that users could apply to the media player. As a result, Winamp had a huge following.
Winamp ceased development after the release of version 5.666 in 2013. However, in October 2018, the Winamp 5.8 leaked online, with the developers announcing that they will continue to develop the media player.
The final Winamp 5.9 has been released
As a result, becoming a videomaker's mission is to bring all people closer to the world of video. Today, Winamp 5.9 Final Build 9999 has been released after four years of development since version 5.8 was leaked online. Its slogan is how "something hit the Lama's ass(yes, really, that's his slogan).
We read in the Winamp 5.9 Final release notes: “This is the culmination of 4 years of work since the release of 5.8. With two teams of developers and an interim period of pause due to the pandemic”.
The most significant change in Winamp 5.9 is the porting of the application from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2019. However, this change caused problems for users who had not installed the Visual Studio 2019 Redistributable.
With this final release, the Winamp installer will check for required Visual Studio 2019 files and prompt users to install them if necessary.
Winamp's changelog reports that this version offers improved support for Windows 11, playback of HTTPS:// streams, a new podcast directory, and support for high-resolution playback.
It also fixed many bugs, although the developers state that several known issues are intended to be fixed in version 5.9.1.
These known issues include bugs in the About dialog, Milkdrop, AVS Editor, ml_wire Podcast, the Bento skin, and more.
