In August, Microsoft announced that it would release its new Windows App for connecting to remote computers this fall. So today the first version of the application was released, a few days before the official first day of autumn.
In a blog post, Microsoft he said that the app is now officially available for Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS and web browsers. It is also available for Android devices, but this version is still marked as a public preview.
The new Windows application was designed to provide both end users and IT administrators with a more unified user experience for any platform. It allows users to connect to remote or local and cloud computing services such as Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop Services, Microsoft Dev Box and others.
It should be noted that there was some backlash with the name change from Remote Desktop to Windows App prior to today's release.
However, the company wanted a rebrand that matched its new vision: cloud computing.
