Trump administration to receive $10 billion for TikTok deal

There may have been some additional incentive for the Trump administration to complete the TikTok deal in the US.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal , the Trump administration will receive a total of $10 billion for the deal that allowed TikTok to remain in the U.S. The new investors who acquired stakes in TikTok’s U.S. entity had already paid a $2,5 billion fee to the government when the deal was finalized in January, but the latest WSJ report says the investor group would continue making payments until the amount reaches $10 billion.

When a group of investors, including Oracle along with investment firms Silver Lake and MGX, acquired stakes in TikTok's US entity called TikTok USDS Joint Venture, the WSJ initially reported that the government would receive a "multi-billion dollar fee" for its work on the deal.

To better understand the $10 billion the Trump administration will receive, the American company TikTok was valued at $14 billion by Vice President JD Vance.

The Trump administration has previously been involved in major deals with other American companies. Last year, the government invested $8,9 billion in Intel and took a nearly 9% equity stake.

In terms of unprecedented windfalls, the Trump administration also received a Boeing 747-8 as a gift from the government of Qatar in May.
