The Lenovo computer maker sent us its official position on publications that said the company is forbidding other operating systems to be installed outside of Windows 10 already installed.
Microsoft loves Linux: Is Microsoft seeking a divorce?
We quote the e-mail that came to us:
As the No. 1 PC company in the world, we continue to focus on the added value we give to PC users and create unique products with innovative form factors, such as the Yoga series. Lenovo Consumer Windows PCs are specifically designed for and extensively tested on Windows 10. The Yoga 900 / 900S, which has a 360-degree screen, is specifically designed to maximize the touch functionality of Windows 10. Yoga product design requires a lot of specific, complex and unique drivers, which require even more testing to ensure top performance in Windows 10. In order to support Yoga products as well as the innovative market 360-degree folding design in the best possible way, we used a unit function controller which is unfortunately not supported by the Linux operating system and therefore does not allow installation. In addition to the installation limit set by the controller, other advanced features offered by the Yoga design may not work with current Linux products.
Lenovo does not deliberately prevent customers from using other operating systems, such as Linux, in Yoga products or any other device, and is fully committed to offering certifications and guidance to the Linux installation on a wide range of suitable products.
