Lenovo announced plans yesterday to recall tens of thousands of 1th generation ThinkPad X5 Carbon laptops due to a loose screw that could cause a fire in the batteries of laptops.
According to a statement released by Lenovo late last night, the company "has determined that a limited number of systems may have a problematic screw [...] that can damage the battery by causing it to overheat, and potentially put the Appliances in danger of fire".
The Chinese company reports that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 generation laptops built between December 2016 and October of 2017 are said to be affected.
The Consumer Product Safety Committee in the United States estimates that the number of ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebooks in the US is about 78.000, while 5.500 was sold to Canada.
Lenovo said only ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops with a “Machine Type” codename of 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 or 20K4 are affected. Owners of the devices can find him code this on a sticker on the back of it devices.
