The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 26.2.3. This latest version of the leading open source office suite maintains its focus on digital sovereignty and privacy. It gives individuals, organizations, and governments complete control over their data and the most comprehensive productivity tools.
In a global context of growing concern about data protection, cloud entrapment, and surveillance capitalism, LibreOffice 26.2.2 provides concrete solutions.
Open source: The source code is available for review and is completely free from proprietary technology restrictions.
Privacy and control: LibreOffice does not collect personal data, usage metrics, or diagnostic information and complies with the data protection regulations required by public administration applications (GDPR).
Local execution: all functions are performed locally on the user's computer, without requiring an internet or cloud connection.
Collaboration with self-hosting: Integrating with local cloud solutions, such as Nextcloud, allows teams to collaborate without sharing information with large technology companies.
LibreOffice 26.2: new performance and features
User interface: The Welcome/What's New dialog now offers access to the user interface selector and appearance options, allowing new users to take advantage of LibreOffice's flexible user interface and customize its appearance and functionality to their liking.
Performances: everything is faster, from startup to scrolling through large documents, with significant speed improvements on less powerful computers.
• In benchmark tests, Writer and Calc open files up to 30% faster.
• Optimized memory management enables smoother operation on virtual desktops and thin clients.
Better interoperability with Microsoft Office files, with more accurate handling of DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX files and fewer formatting issues, thanks to changes such as:
• complete revision of syllabification and word spacing
• font management in Impress that is compatible with PowerPoint files
• added new functions to Calc: CHOOSECOLS, CHOOSEROWS, DROP, EXPAND, HSTACK, TAKE, TEXTAFTER, TEXTBEFORE, TEXTSPLIT, TOCOL, TOROW, VSTACK, WRAPCOLS and WRAPROWS.
There are, of course, other important new features, such as the ability to export to PDF 2.0 format and several new ScriptForge library services.
