LibreOffice 26.8 has just been released

The Document Foundation today announced LibreOffice 26.8, a major new release of the free and open source office suite, which is immediately available for Windows, macOS, and Linux in over 120 languages. The release is the work of 206 contributors, 155 of whom are volunteers.

LibreOffice 26.8 does not contain any creative AI features. Documents are never transmitted to remote services, and no elements require network access to function.

The suite is free of ads, telemetry, subscriptions, and requires no account. Starting with this release, a donation banner appears in the Launch Center, linking to the donation page, and does not appear anywhere else in the software: LibreOffice is free to use, but not free to maintain.

Users in production environments may prefer LibreOffice 26.2.5. LibreOffice 26.2.6 will follow on September 3, 2026.

Organizations using LibreOffice on a large scale should consider the enterprise editions offered by companies in the LibreOffice ecosystem. These are optimized for managed environments and are backed by Service Level Agreements, professional support, and security updates that last for three to five years, a significantly longer horizon than the community release cycle. Enterprises with these requirements are encouraged to contact an ecosystem company directly.
