Lifehacker: Build an ecological trap for mosquitoes

No one wants the mosquitoes to be eaten alive. So usually we all resort to active chemicals to keep them away. The Lifehacker posted a trick by user Dartorso, which you will probably find very handy. THE offers a solution in the form of a mosquito trap that you can easily make using a plastic bottle.

There are many sprays that you can use to keep mosquitoes away, but the plastic bottle trap is an environmentally friendly one. A very good alternative. Most of the items needed to build the trap can be found at your. You will need a plastic bottle, sugar, brewer's yeast, tape, black cardboard, and a pair of scissors.

The bottle needs a little preparation. Cut off the top and place upside down. The secret to the trap is the mix you put in it. Boil a little , and add the sugar to dissolve. Then let the water cool and add the brewer's yeast. The yeast will start to produce CO2 as you come into contact with the sugar. The smell will attract mosquitoes. It's important to chill the water, so you don't melt the plastic bottle or spoil the yeast.

Darthorso explains how the trap works:

Beer yeast produces a small but continued CO2 quantity, and as it blends with the sugar present in the water, it creates an odor that is irresistible to the mosquitoes!

So, these little devils fly into the small hole of the bottle cap and stick, since they can not find a way out. The percentage of mosquitoes left behind is too low.

To perfect the trap you can cover it with cardboard. You will find that just 10 grams of yeast lasts for approx weeks, which makes the trap particularly efficient.
