The Linux Foundation "funds the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds and lead maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman," according to its Wikipedia page. Now the Linux Foundation “is pleased to announce its release Overture Maps Foundation", in accordance with last newsletter.
It is a collaborative effort “to enable current and next-generation map products by creating reliable, easy-to-use and interoperable data of open maps that can enhance mapping services worldwide”.
The initiative was founded by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Meta, Microsoft and TomTom and is an open community with a common interest in creating open map data. To join, visit overturemaps.org.
The Linux Foundation has also announced plans for its creation Open Metaverse Foundation:
