Linux Lite 7.0 RC just released with new features, and is based on Ubuntu 24.04. Linux Lite 7.0 final, codenamed Galena, will be released on June 1, 2024.
Linux Lite may not be as well-known as Ubuntu or Linux Mint, but unlike those distributions, it is much lighter. According to the release notes, Linux Lite 7.0 runs on computers with just 768 MB of RAM and a 1 GHz processor. These are the minimum specifications, however, a 1,5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM are recommended. In terms of disk space, the minimum is 8 GB, but it is recommended that you have at least 20 GB.
Other changes that this version brings are updates to the packages: Window theme – Materia (for those who want their operating system to look like Windows 10-11), icon theme – Papirus, Font – Roboto Regular. The Linux kernel has been upgraded to version 6.8 (while custom kernels are available in the distribution repository for versions 3.13 – 6.8). Chrome 124.0, Thunderbird 115.10.1, LibreOffice 7.6.6.3, VLC: 3.0.20, and Gimp: 2.10.36 packages were also upgraded.
The distribution as you see in the image below openly challenges Windows users running old computers.
