The Linux Mint 18 is here and ISOs are available for λήψη in two flavors: Cinnamon and MATE. There is currently no official announcement on the Linux Mint website.
Linux Mint 18 Sarah release notes have not changed since Beta released three weeks ago, but both versions of Cinnamon and MATE are based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus, which comes with Linux Kernel 4.4 LTS.
Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon is developed with the latest Cinnamon 3.0 interface, and adds major improvements to the Update Manager, both visually and in code. It comes with a new one appearance which is based on the popular Arc GTK theme and has Moka icons. The theme is called Mint-Y, but it is not enabled by defaultchoice.
There are also many other improvements to the Linux Mint 18 code, such as HiPCI support, X-Apps, introducing new applications designed for Linux Mint (Xed, Xviewer, Xreader, Xplayer, Pix, MDN 2.0, GTK3 for most of the applications included, and adding the Gufw firewall widget.
On the other hand, Linux Mint 18 MATE uses the MATE 1.14 graphical interface, and comes a little bit with the same improvements in the system and updated features like Cinnamon. Linux Mint 18 will be supported with security updates up to 2021.
