The developers of the Linux Mint distribution today released the final ISO images of the Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” series ahead of the official announcement that will likely be made public this weekend.
Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” has been in development for the past five months and is the new major Linux Mint series after Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana”. It is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) powered by Linux Kernel 5.15 LTS and will be supported for the next five years until 2027.
Linux Mint 21 comes in three flavors, Cinnamon 5.4, Xfce 4.16, and MATE 1.26 desktop environments.
All three DEs bring the same improvements, as well as improvements to Bluetooth by adopting the Blueman 2.3 GTK+ Bluetooth Manager as a drop-in replacement for the Blueberry Bluetooth configuration tool. This promises better connectivity for devices and audio profiles.
Also, all three DEs contain the new XAPP project (called XAPP-THUMBNAILERS), and it brings thumbnail support to the admin files for appimage files, ePUB files, MP3 album covers, RAW and WebP images.
The same applies to application Sticky Notes, which now has support for copying notes and many other small improvements. In addition, Linux Mint 21 comes with a new widget system disk process monitor that detects automated updates and system snapshots running in the background.
Most applications of Linux Mint were updated in Linux Mint 21. For example, XViewer Image Viewer now supports webp images and offers better directory browsing, WebApp Manager supports additional browsers as well as custom browser parameters.
