MagNav new analog quantum GPS

Airbus' Silicon Valley innovation center, Acubed, and Google's SandboxAQ have successfully tested a quantum-sensing navigation device as an alternative to GPS during 150 hours of flight in the continental United States.

The toaster-sized MagNav device uses quantum physics to measure unique magnetic signatures in the Earth's crust , with an artificial intelligence algorithm that maps those signatures to precise locations.

The technology met Federal Aviation Administration requirements by pinpointing the aircraft's location within two nautical miles at 100% and within 550 meters at 64%.

SandboxAQ CEO Jack Hidary called it “the first new absolute navigation system we’ve seen in 50 years.”

The analog system cannot be jammed or spoofed like GPS, which faces increasing violations in the Middle East, around Ukraine and Russia.
