Manjaro Architect: Its developers Manjaro Linux announced the release of the issue Manjaro 17.0.1-rc1 Xfce, which brings for the first time an advanced program CLI installation on the popular distro.
Manjaro Architect is a CLI installer, meaning it does not even need to provide a real graphical installation environment. All packages for the system should be downloaded from the internet during installation and will not be installed from the compressed files contained in the ISO.
Compared to traditional Calamares installer with a graphical environment, the new CLI installer has some obvious advantages:
- The ISO of the installation is much smaller, reaching about 500MB.
- You will only have to download the packages that will be installed and only those, and you have to be sure that it will always be in the last available version.
- The same CLI installer can be used to install any desktop environment you want. Even the CLI installer itself will be updated and will use its latest version when ISO starts.
- The options for your own adjustments are virtually limitless. You are free to choose the kernel or kernels, drivers, init, desktop (or no desktop) and any other packages you want, with very detailed configurations according to your preferences.
- At the same time, if you prefer, you can use auto-install drivers through Manjaro Hardware Detection and access the pre-configured profiles supported by the Manjaro versions to install a configuration that is similar to what you will get from the big ISO distribution.
Let us mention that the efforts of Manjaro Linux developers have not gone unnoticed by the free software community.
Before some time ago we mentioned that distribution went through openSUSE in the DistroWatch ranking list and Ubuntu has recently passed.
Those of you who want to learn more about the new installer and see a step-by-step installation can see the tutorial posted on the distribution forum.
