Learn how to make a proper copy

The text selection or otherwise or copy, is something common to one . We imagine you all know how to do it but are you doing it the right way?

copy paste

The Copy function is very simple. You all left click and drag your mouse to highlight the desired text. It couldn't be simpler, right? And yet, there is a much better way, that if you use it you will never go back to old habits.

Because you're doing it wrong
First, let's take a closer look at how most people typically select text on their computer, whether it's Windows, or Mac, or Chromebook, or Linux.

Place the cursor at the beginning of the text, hold down the left mouse button, drag the cursor to the desired end, and then release the button. The text is highlighted letter by letter.

This technique works well, but there is one problem, which you have probably noticed. When selecting text letter by letter, it's easy to accidentally highlight only part of a word.

You may not have put the cursor in exactly the right place to start or miss the last letter or mark spaces as well. Ultimately the result can be disturbing.

Why is this method "wrong"? Think about the times you've highlighted text. Are you trying to highlight whole words or just parts of words? We bet that, most of the time, you aim for complete words or complete sentences. So let's make it easier.

The Best Method

copy and paste

Prepare to be amazed. Instead of single clicking and dragging, try double clicking and dragging. This will select the text you want word by word, rather than letter by letter, which is much more efficient.

Double clicking selects the first full word you have the cursor on, then hold down the left mouse button on the second click and then you can continue to drag the cursor to highlight word by word. Punctuation is highlighted independently of words.

This method makes much more sense for most cases. You don't have to worry about transferring to the right spot. The best part is that this is not a platform-exclusive trick. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebooks.

For keyboard lovers
But not everyone prefers to use a mouse to select text. If you're in that group, don't worry, we've got you covered too.

There are keyboard shortcuts for selecting text both by letter and by word. To select text letter by letter, place the cursor at the starting point, hold down the Shift key, and then press the left or right arrow.

To select by word, place the cursor at the starting point or double-click the first word. Now hold Shift + Ctrl and press the left or right arrow.

In conclusion
Small like this they can make a difference. Perhaps you have never considered that there was another way to select a text.

But always keep in mind that the buttons on a mouse are much more versatile than you might imagine.
