Meta allows AI to be used for military purposes

Llama models are “open source,” meaning the technology can be freely copied and distributed by other developers, companies, and governments.

Meta's move is an exception to its "acceptable use policy" that prohibited the use of the company's AI software. for "military, war, and nuclear industries", among others.

In a post on their blog on Monday, Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, said the company will now support "responsible and ethical uses" of the technology in the United States.

"Meta wants to play its part to support the security, and economic well-being of America — and its closest allies as well," Clegg said.

He added that "widespread adoption of American open source AI models serves both economic and security interests."
