Microsoft claims that Windows 10 is installed on 1 billion devices. The announcement came after the company announced last March that Windows 10 had 800 million active users.
The new number comes just days after Apple announced that its software runs on 1,5 billion devices worldwide.
Microsoft has long reported that there are 1.5 billion Windows PCs, so the new milestone announced today is supposed to show that Windows adoption is improving, and is supposed to have surpassed the 1,5 billion device milestone.
But the new number published on an Italian website by Microsoft may not be accurate as the announcement page he is currently retired. It should be mentioned that normally there should be some official announcement, as the 1 billion devices is a goal that the company has been pursuing since 2015.
However, the adoption of Windows 10 has probably improved over the last two years due to the end of support for Windows 7. The 2009 operating system reached the end of support at January 14 and so a significant number of users upgraded to Windows 10. Of course the upgrades are expected to continue in the coming months.
Microsoft, of course, continues to pressure users and businesses to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, warning of significant security risks if they continue to run the expired operating system.
