Microsoft has announced the Copilot AI assistant in Windows 11. Windows Copilot will be integrated directly into Windows 11 and will be available to open and use from the taskbar in all apps and programs.
"Once opened, the Windows Copilot sidebar will remain a constant in your apps, programs, and windows, always available to act as your personal assistant," explains Panos Panay, head of Windows and devices at Microsoft.
"It makes every user a power user, helping you take action, customize your settings, and connect seamlessly to your favorite apps."
Windows Copilot can summarize the content you see in apps, rewrite it, or even explain it.
It's very similar to the dialog box found in Bing Chat, so you can ask it general questions and things you'd normally ask in a search engine.
It won't directly replace the search bar on the Windows 11 taskbar, and will exist as a separate Copilot button next to it, just as Cortana had her own dedicated space on the Windows 10 taskbar.
Windows Copilot is a "personal assistant," according to Microsoft, which is very similar to how Microsoft described Cortana as a "personal productivity assistant."
