Microsoft today announced a new partnership with Acer that will bring its applications and services to Android smartphones and tablets.
According to Microsoft, Acer is the 74 affiliate company that has decided it would be a good idea to use Office services and other apps developed by Redmond on the Android devices it manufactures.
"We are excited to announce that we are partnering with 74 hardware manufacturers in 25 countries to make Microsoft applications and services available on their Android tablets and mobile phones," said Nick Parker, Corporate Vice President, Original Equipment Manufacturer Division of Microsoft.
What does this mean;
Applications and services such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Skype, onedrive and Outlook will soon be preinstalled on Android devices.
Microsoft also mentioned some of the popular Android devices already coming with its preinstalled applications: LG G Pad 2, Samsung Galaxy S6, and Sony Xperia Z4.
Redmond seems to be trying too hard to penetrate Android and iOS apps, and the results seem to be very positive.
In addition to having Office and other applications like Skype, onedrive and Outlook, Microsoft has also released many Android and iOS applications that can be downloaded for free through the Google Store and App Store Play, respectively.
At the same time, the company tried to find a way to persuade developers to transfer their applications to the Windows platform through the use of various tools, such as Project Astoria for Android) and Project Islandwood for iOS. The latter is still under development.
