Σε μια όχι και τόσο απροσδόκητη ανακοίνωση, η Microsoft επιβεβαίωσε την απόσυρση του Visual Studio για Mac Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
The last version of this IDE will be 17.6 and will continue to receive updates service and security fixes until August 31, 2024. After that, the company will stop supporting it.
According to Microsoft, the decision comes after analyzing user feedback and usage patterns. The company aims to focus its resources on optimizing Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, both accessible through the C# Dev Kit.
What will happen;
Microsoft is urging its users to switch to Visual Studio Code in conjunction with the new C# Dev Kit and other related extensions. Developers who still need to use the Visual Studio IDE on Mac systems should run Windows using a virtual machine either locally on the Mac or via the cloud.
Although support for new frameworks, runtimes, or languages will not be added to Visual Studio for Mac, it will continue to support the .NET 6, .NET 7, and Mono frameworks. Basic support for .NET 8 is also available for building and debugging applications.
JetBrains Rider: A reliable alternative
For developers looking for other powerful alternatives to Visual Studio for Mac, JetBrains Rider is a promising solution. Rider is a cross-platform IDE that supports various frameworks, and languages, such as .NET, ASP.NET, .NET Core, Xamarin and Unity.
