Microsoft Defender's performance in the latest antivirus evaluation tests was not the best. In AV-Comparatives' tests, researchers saw no improvement in the Defender over its latest essay, while AV-TEST found that Defender fell short in performance tests.
However, it's not all bad for Microsoft, as AV-TEST found that Defender did exceptionally well in the Advanced Threat Protection Test Against Ransomware in February 2022. Both in the home tests users and for businesses, Microsoft Defender was one of the best programs for detecting and blocking ransomware.
See what AV-TEST's advanced ransomware tests say:
Advanced Threat Protection tests provide vendors and users with meaningful findings on how secure a product can protect against ransomware in real-world scenarios.
Products must successfully defend against ransomware in 10 different scenarios in Windows 10. The tests include threats such as files containing hidden malware, files Power point with malicious scripts or HTML files with malicious content.
