Microsoft is trying to lower expectations ahead of Build 2026 and Computex, confirming that users shouldn't expect a Windows 12 announcement next week.
Rumors of a possible new version of Windows began circulating as Microsoft and computer manufacturers made serious efforts toward computers with artificial intelligence and next-generation hardware.
However, the head of Windows and devices, Pavan Davuluri, recently clarified that Build 2026 will focus on developers, AI experiences, and new hardware instead of a new operating system.
The official Windows account with a teaser he mentioned “a new era for computers” and shared coordinates pointing to the Taipei Music Center in Taiwan, fueling speculation surrounding Computex announcements.
However, the teaser seems to be linked to upcoming hardware reveals and not to Windows 12.
Rather than replacing Windows 11, Microsoft seems to be focusing more on improving the current operating system. The company recently released several new Insider builds, including experimental builds for Windows 26H1, a build with a smaller Start menu and better Search, a new Canary build that fixes issues signing in to Microsoft accounts, and a Windows 11 Beta update with new loading animations and improved Search.
For now, the 2026 version is expected to focus on AI-powered PCs, developer tools, and Windows 11 improvements rather than being a next-generation version of Windows.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
