Microsoft has been able to close a major deal with the US Department of Defense (DoD) to provide $ 1,76 billion in software and services over five years.
The Pentagon he said on Friday when we got the deal, which states that Microsoft will provide business services to DoD, Coast Guard and various other secret services.
In a statement announcing the deal, the Pentagon explains that the support it bought from Microsoft includes the following:
The services, productand Microsoft support for software developers and product teams to leverage a variety of proprietary sources and source code. Support from Microsoft for tools, knowledge database, and custom changes to Microsoft source code when required.
The five-year "indefinite" contract deliveryand Unlimited Quantity" (IDIQ) has a completion date of January 10, 2024. This contract commits Microsoft to providing an unlimited quantity of services during the period.
The contract allows DoD to pay to Microsoft payment orders, primarily from operational and maintenance funds.
Microsoft's victory comes as DoD continues to evaluate the bids submitted by companies for a $ 10 billion dollar contract, also known as JEDI or Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure. The Pentagon should select only one company in the first quarter of 2019.
Microsoft's competitor, Amazon Web Services (AWS), is considered a pioneer of the JEDI contract. Google dropped out of the race because it didn't have the required government certifications.
Oracle filed several complaints last year with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) claiming that some parts of the contract were written in a way that favors AWS and that this is illegal because it favors a single seller.
The GAO ruled that the Pentagon was legally entitled to award the contract to a vendor because it judged base interest.
IBM has also criticized the "winner gets it all" method of the JEDI contract.
