In an effort to improve Microsoft Edge in Windows 10, Microsoft has added support for a new security feature in the program browsing.
The new feature, which appeared to some users, will allow you to enforce control ID cards before autofilling passwords.
Like any other browser, Microsoft Edge has a great password manager that lets you save and fill in your passwords automatically.
In Canary versions, Microsoft is reportedly testing a new option that requires a successful authentication before passwords are automatically filled out.
By enabling the new feature, Microsoft will not automatically populate the passwords stored in the browser and will require the user to validate the process using the Windows Hello security features.
If you have a device that does not support Windows Hello, you can enable the feature in Microsoft Edge from the Browser Profile page by selecting passwords. Click on "Authentication required" in the "Login" section to use a PIN.
Once enabled, Microsoft Edge will display a prompt each time you try to use the browser auto-complete feature to enter the saved passwords.
Windows Hello will ask you to enter the PIN for all password boxes when the first "Always" option is selected. If you select the second option, you can automatically fill in the passwords without authentication for one minute. If the third option is selected, authentication will be required once per session.
With this feature, Microsoft hopes to prevent unauthorized access to saved passwords which will be especially useful if you don't usesand a third-party password manager.
Although supported by PINs, other Windows Hello methods, such as biometric credentials, are of course a much more secure way to prevent unauthorized access to stored passwords.
