Microsoft has renamed the Microsoft Edge browser for Android and iOS to Microsoft Edge: AI Browser. A visit to the pages Google Play Store ή Apple App Store of the browser confirms the change.
Microsoft has yet to announce the change or explain why it changed the name of the browser. One possible explanation is of course the company's willingness to integrate artificial intelligence into many of its products.
The description on the stores pages focuses on the AI functionality:
“Microsoft Edge, the artificial intelligence browser, with built-in Copilot to improve your browsing experience. Powered by GPT-4, Copilot lets you ask questions, do more specific searches, get comprehensive summaries and create images with DALL-E 3. Microsoft Edge is a smarter way to browse, find, create and shop.”

The description focuses on Copilot AI which is part of Microsoft Edge. Edge mobile users can use it for a variety of options, including getting article summaries, identifying elements in images, creating images using words, and of course the usual conversation with the moving intelligence.
The desktop version of the app is still listed as Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft Edge is not the most popular mobile browser.
It has over 50 million downloads on Android devices and a rating of 4,6. Apple's App Store doesn't disclose download statistics, but Edge has a 4,7 rating.
It remains to be seen whether the name change will increase Microsoft Edge installations on those platforms.
