Microsoft Edge διαθέτει πολλές ενσωματωμένες δυνατότητες ασφαλείας για να σας προστατεύει από malware, annoying pop-ups or tracking. Tech scams have been around for at least two decades, and Edge probably wants to do something about it.
Microsoft is testing a new scareware blocking feature in the program tourς Edge που μπορεί να βοηθήσει στον εντοπισμό και να προειδοποιήσει τους users from the illegal tactic – scareware.
If you haven't heard of scareware, it's basically an advertisement, a banner ή ένα αναδυόμενο παράθυρο που σας ζητάει να λάβετε άμεσα μέτρα.
Microsoft Edge it will track the pages you open in real time and will notify you if the company's AI detects any potential scareware. However, it won't work for all AI-detected scareware. Some software and shopping sites display full-screen ads or lock the page behind them and prompt you to purchase the product.
To combat such situations, Edge will always leave the decision to the end user.
You could ignore the warning and take the action the ad asks you to, which could be buying or installing some software, if the site is legitimate and you trust it. Or, you could close the banner and never visit it again.
Let's mention that although the description of this possibility it says that it works in real time, it is not clear how many resources it uses to scan a page. Then it has to upload the data somewhere, which can add significant latency to the browsing process.
Microsoft is currently still testing the scareware blocker in preview versions of Edge and will start rolling out from early 2025.
