A new update is rolling out that automatically launches Microsoft's Edge browser and prompts users to import their tabs from Chrome.
The move has sparked criticism of Microsoft's aggressive tactics aimed at encouraging Edge adoption.
Microsoft doesn't seem to care too much about the reviews though. From the insert ads on the official Chrome website until pop-ups appear adware-like windowsOr the polls, the company can't deal with the fact that some people prefer Google Chrome. And the worst part (or the funniest, depending on how you look at it) is that despite all this effort and the fact that it's the default browser on Windows, Microsoft Edge is used by very few.
Let's see what happened this time
Edge starts automatically and displays a prompt to “enhance your browsing experience”.
The popup has an option to “transfer your data from other browsers” with Chrome selected by default and encourages users to confirm and continue with a big blue button. If you want to close this prompt, there's a tiny white X button that looks like the sparkles Microsoft uses in the background of the message.
If you just hit confirm and continue then Microsoft Edge will pull all your data from Chrome.
The message seems to appear mostly on computers that have Chrome installed, clearly indicating that Microsoft is targeting Chrome users again.
