What is Windows ESU?
The Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 provides customers with a more secure option to continue using Windows 10 PCs after October 14, 2025, while transitioning to Windows 11. The ESU program helps reduce the risk of malware and cyberattacks by providing access to critical and important security updates, as determined by the Microsoft security response center (MSRC), for devices running Windows 10, version 22H2. Enrolling for ESU does not provide other types of fixes, feature enhancements, or product improvements. It also does not come with technical support.
“Windows 10 support has ended. You can enroll in ESU at any time until the program ends on October 12, 2027. If you are already enrolled, your coverage will automatically continue until that date—no action required.”
Until now, the consumer ESU program was a one-year extension of support for the operating system. Users on Windows 10 version 22H2 could receive critical and important security updates until October 13, 2026, with no option to renew beyond that. Businesses had the option to pay for up to three years of extended updates at tiered pricing starting at $61 per device.
Microsoft's page now shows that support is valid until October 12, 2027. Users who have already registered will have their coverage automatically extended. Registration remains free for anyone who syncs PC Settings through a Microsoft account.

Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
