As we mentioned in an earlier post, some Windows 10 apps like Photos, Calendar, Calculator, Mail and Calendar, and Feedback Hub recently started showing “File System Error (-2147219196)”.
Microsoft said it is aware of the issue and has identified the root cause. The good news is it's already working on a fix that will be released on the Microsoft Store soon.
So what went wrong?
According to reports from Feedback Hub and the Microsoft forums, Microsoft automatically updated apps through its Store on January 23rd. While the updates were supposed to be regular maintenance releases, they broke Photos, Calendar, Calculator, Mail and Calendar, Feedback Hub, and many others.
These apps stop immediately on startup with a “File System Error (-2147219196)” error message. This seems to only affect older hardware, such as AMD Athlon, Intel Quad and Core 2 Duo processors, which were on the market in the early 2000s.
What can you do?
