Another Fair Play example from Microsoft

Earlier this month, Microsoft quietly added the “ Tips notifications” στα Windows 10, για να αναδείξει μερικά από τα χαρακτηριστικά του λειτουργικού συστήματος. Υπήρξαν φυσικά διάφορες διαμαρτυρίες καθώς πολλά από τα “Tips” της s are actually advertisements. Below we will present you one of these company Tips for two reasons:

1. to see the message (security tip) and
2. to showcase once again the practice of the company that seems to have nothing to do with the term fair play.

The new message that appears advertises the security level of the Edge browser.firefox-edge

These ad-tips appeared for the first time in early November, and a Microsoft spokeswoman said it actually is that will help users discover the benefits of Windows 10.

So, with posts in Reddit, there are new notifications that show that Edge is safer than Mozilla Firefox and Chrome.
The message is displayed each time users open another outside of Edge.

Is Fair Play by Microsoft? The company, of course, has given a choice to disable these tips.

If you do not want to see the "unbiased" advice of Microsoft you can turn them off by following the path below:

Settings - System - Notifications and disable the option "Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows."

Microsoft, of course, does not see any reason to do this:

“As we continue to improve Microsoft Edge, we want to let our users know about the big news which are available in the browser but also in Windows 10 from notifications. Windows Tips notifications were created to provide quick, easy information that can help and enhance the user experience in Windows 10.”

It goes without saying that Microsoft bets a lot on its new Edge browser and Windows, but an aggressive promotion of its products could to easily make a double-edged knife.

Edge adoption by the public is currently reaching 5 percent, and using desktop alerts that promote the browser by "burying" trusted third-party applications is not the best way for the company to increase its adoption rate.
