Microsoft blames Intel for Windows "lockdown"

In previous publication We reported a new issue related to BitLocker on Windows computers. The latest Patch Tuesday May 2025 update causes devices to go into a frenzy locking up computers, requiring BitLocker recovery or restart (for those using encryption).

From its preliminary investigation, Microsoft learned that Intel TXT (Trusted Execution Technology) was responsible, although it did not provide a detailed explanation.

However, there is a simple solution to the BitLocker recovery and restart issue, if you go into the BIOS of the affected computers (Intel) and disable the TXT feature.

For those who aren't aware, Intel TXT is a security feature built into Intel processors and chipsets. It helps protect computers from software attacks by ensuring that applications run in a secure, isolated space.

TXT uses hardware-based security to keep data safe. It integrates features such as Intel PTT (also known as TPM) and Secure Boot.

After further investigation, Microsoft has published a new entry on the Windows Health Dashboard website . The company states that a conflict between Intel's TXT feature and the latest Windows 10 update KB5058379 leads to the termination of the lsass.exe process, which is essentially what triggers Automatic Repair on such affected systems.

This is because the Local Security Authority Server Service (LSASS) process helps validate and authenticate users for local and remote connections, enforcing local security policies.

This explains why systems boot to the BitLocker recovery screen, as Intel TXT and LSASS do not work well together.
