Η Microsoft launched the application suite Office for iPad devices ( Office for iPad) just a week ago. However, according to the company's announcement, the application has been made download already 12 million times.
Office for iPad is free to download so users can read or display document files without difficulty.
However, users who wish to create or modify files in applications such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint should acquire a subscription to Office 365. Only OneNote is an exception to the above.
The announcement by Microsoft was made via Twitter, without specifying what percentage of the 12 million downloads are paid subscriptions to the suite.
In a related clarifying question from Engadget, MrfaceA Microsoft spokesperson said the company is pleased with the public's interest in Office for iPad, but did not elaborate.
As CNet notes, the announcement of Office for iPad was a calculated risk for Microsoft in the hope that iPad users wouldpriceare the company's complete suite, compared to other free offerings such as Google Docs or Apple's iWorks.
